 Getting Started

In our complimentary in-home consultation we gather information and customize our service to your unique circumstances. This is a crucial step in forming the easiest route to a successful and low stress move. We will provide you with information, assistance and other services related to senior living. Everything that is presented to you is geared to overcome obstacles in completing your housing transition.

Rightsizing: Rightsizing is a process and not an event. It's not the square footage or the number of possessions you have but rather an approach to living your life each day with only those possessions that have the most meaning to you. Being conscious of the sentiment of these items gives you the power to organize and hold on to the most precious gems you own. Disregarding everything else is a fantastic feeling of clearing non-necessities and other things that may be taking up space.

Rightsizing is a freeing experience on its own. Sometimes our possessions can get the best of us holding us hostage in its own metaphorical way. It is better that we own our belongings rather then our belongings own us.  When we are drowning in an abundance of material items, there may be a need to examine our psychological and emotional ties to those objects and relieve that attachment.

The Big Move or the Organized Stay
Depending on your situation you may be remaining at home, moving to a smaller home or relocating to a retirement community. Before we get you to where you are going, please survey your belongings and ask yourself how you feel about them. Below, are a few example questions you may want to ask yourself during your observation.

1. Do I love this item?
2. Do I use this item now?
3. Is it sentimental?
4. Will it have use in the immediate future?

With these questions you can narrow down what items to keep and what items to disregard. Please focus on one room and allow yourself time while going through your belongings. This can be a very emotional experience and breaks are encouraged through this process.

Here is an example of the steps that are recommended while going through your belongings:

A. Empty the contents of a kitchen drawer.
B. Separate items and put them into like categories.
C. Once you have done this, remove the items that have not been used in the last year and put them in a bag.
D. Put the bags in the garage or in a place that is out of the way.

It can be tempting to go through the bags and keep the disregarded items. Please try to stay focused on the goal of keeping only those items that have been used in the last year.

Repeat this process with other areas of your home and feel the ease it gives you by alleviating the non-necessities. It can be an exhilarating process just going through and completing these tidying tasks.

If you are moving and the new location is smaller than your current one, compare the square footage of your old place with your new home. This will give you an estimation of how much room you will have in order to approximate a percentage of items to keep. By doing this, you can cut down on clutter in your new home and give it a more spacious feel.
